Five Essentials to follow when you invest in your 30s!

When you turn 30, your financial responsibilities suddenly “increase”. Or at least they seem to. This is because the 30s is the age most people start taking money seriously. When you are in your 30s, you are settled in your job, married and have children. Your financial obligations increase and you have various goals like children’s education, buying property and saving for retirement. As expenses shoot up, simply saving money in your bank account or making random investments will not help you in achieving your financial goals.

The following are some essential steps to be followed when you plan your investments while you are in your 30s:

Increase your monthly investments as much as you can:
Investing the bare minimum is a mistake most investors make. Even a small increase in your monthly investments results in a huge difference in the amount you accumulate over the long term. This is due to the compounding effect on money.

Let’s say there are two individuals A and B who earn Rs. 60,000 per month. They both invest in the same set of mutual funds which give returns of 12% per annum over a same time period of 10 years. The only difference is the amount of investment made every month. While A spends 70% of his monthly income and invests Rs.18000 every month, B spends only 60% of his income and invests Rs. 24000 per month. The total corpus, assuming constant monthly investments and constant returns of 12% per annum over 10 years is Rs. 41.8 lakhs for A and Rs. 55.8 lakhs for B - a difference of Rs. 13.9 lakhs. A small difference of Rs. 6000 per month in investments has resulted in a huge difference in the end-corpus.
Therefore, the first important aspect of investing in your 30s is to maximise your investments as much as possible.

Build an emergency fund:
Life is uncertain and the best you can do to combat this uncertainty is to ensure you are financially prepared for this. Emergencies can be a sudden job loss, a fall in income levels or a sudden medical expense if you do not have health insurance. Start planning to build an emergency fund to deal with such uncertainties while you are in your 30s. This fund should be earmarked for emergency purposes only, and should not be touched for regular expenses. Remember that this fund should be easily accessible, as you are preparing this for an emergency. While experts opine that you should set aside at least 6 months of your expenses in an emergency fund, this can be even upto 2.5 years of your expenses, depending on your risk-return tolerance. Liquid investments usually yield a lower return; so plan your emergency fund accordingly.

Understand your financial goals and commitments in life:
You investments must be planned to help you realise your financial goals, without disturbing the returns.
For example, you cannot plan to purchase a car, 5 years from today using the amount in a 10 year fixed deposit which you started a year back. Each of your goals will have to be met at different points of time in your life. So you must invest in various instruments according to these goals.
Let’s say you estimate your child’s post-graduate education in 15 years. You estimate today’s cost to be Rs. 10 lakhs for the same. Assuming an average inflation rate of 7% per annum, you will need Rs.27.5 lakhs at the end of 15 years. So you will have to plan your investments so that you can meet this financial goal.

Similarly, you must also understand the quantum of your retirement savings. Assume your monthly expenses are Rs. 50000, and you expect the pre and post retirement inflation to be 7% per annum. You expect to earn 8% on your savings post-retirement. You will work for the next 25 years and you expect to live for 20 years post retirement. You will need a total of Rs. 5.9 crores to sustain the present lifestyle.  This amount looks humungous and unachievable. But it can be achieved with proper planning and investing.

Get sufficient insurance cover:
A sudden death of the primary earning member can leave dependents devastated, both mentally and financially. Ascertain the right amount of insurance needed, and ensure that you have taken enough cover to protect your family in case of your sudden death. Remember, the earlier you take an insurance cover on your life, the lower will be the premium to be paid. Also ensure you have other insurance policies in place - like a health insurance, personal accident cover etc.

Register a Will:
Legal hassles can be plenty for your family members if you do not have a registered will in place. Many people ignore this and start thinking about this when they are in their 50s. But as life is uncertain, death can occur anytime. Making a will is easy and inexpensive. So do this on priority.
Start planning your investments keeping in mind the above points.

Expectations

A family of tortoise went on a picnic. They packed food and set out to a place they had selected behind the hills. When they reached the spot, they unpacked their picnic basket.  They realized they had forgotten to bring salt. Food without salt is tasteless.  They had a conference to decide who should go back and get salt.

After a lot of discussion, the youngest tortoise was chosen, as he was faster than the others. The youngest objected on the ground that before he could come back the others might eat the snacks. But they assured him they would wait for him to come back with salt.

Six months passed, but the youngest tortoise did not turn up.  So the rest of the family decided to open the basket and eat the snacks.
When they opened the snack basket, the little tortoise jumped out of the bushes and screamed,Look,  I knew you would not wait till I came back.  For six months I have been hiding in these bushes to make sure you would not eat without me. Now my suspicion has been confirmed, and I am not going to get the salt.

Some of us are exactly like our suspicious tortoise : we waste our own time waiting for people to live up to our expectations. Instead of doing the right thing ourselves, we wait for others to act in ways we expect them to. We waste our time waiting for others to live according to our expectations

It is really true that expectations are the sources of lot of problems that all the living beings in the world faces.  Everyone expect something from the next person, he can be a person closer or even far away from him, might be related or unrelated or so on.......  But the expectation exists.......

The worst thing is the reaction that living being emits when his/her expectation fails or not in the path as he or she wants it to be.....

Everyone have to think of this and change expectation as an option and make life easier and happiest.....

Live the life...........

"If we are not prepared to think for ourselves, and to make the effort to learn how to do this well, we will always be in danger of becoming slaves to the ideas and values of others due to our own ignorance."

"History can come in handy. If you were born yesterday, with no knowledge of the past, you might easily accept whatever the government tells you. But knowing a bit of history--while it would not absolutely prove the government was lying in a given instance--might make you skeptical, lead you to ask questions, make it more likely that you would find out the truth."

George Carlin
"Forget the politicians. The politicians are put there to give you the idea you have freedom of choice. You don't. You have no choice. You have owners.  -  They don't want a population of citizens capable of critical thinking. They don't want well informed, well educated people capable of critical thinking. They're not interested in that. That doesn't help them."

Fear not ! The hoax is exposed. - December 2012

Here's an extract from DOOMSDAY FACT SHEET 2012 from David Morrison, Senior Scientist, NASA LUNAR SCIENCE INSTITUTE and Director, Carl Segan Centre for Life Studies in the Universe. Apart from the opposition to hoax, there are other valuable information present in the report......  Nice to learn them.....

Mayan Calendar: The Maya calendar, which is made up different cycles of day counts, does not end this year. Rather, one cycle of 144,000 days (394 years) ends and the next cycle begins.

Mayan Prophecy: The ancient Maya did not predict the end of the world or any disaster in December 2012. Such doomsday predictions are a modern hoax.

Planet Nibiru: Nibiru is probably the minor name of a god found in ancient Mesopotamian writing. There is no planet named Nibiru, and the fictional books by economist Zecharia Sitchin about a civilization on this planet are a hoax.

Rogue Planet Headed for Earth: For the past decade there have been reports of a rogue object (Planet X, or Nibiru, or Hercubolus, or even Comet Elenin) that will collide with Earth in December 2012. These claims are not true. If such a threatening world existed, it would be one of the brightest objects in the sky, and astronomers would have been tracking it for years. If it existed, its gravity would be distorting the orbits of planets, especially Mars and Earth. Astronomers know that it does not exist.

Planet Alignments: There is no alignment of planets in Dec 2012. There is an approximate lining up of the Earth and Sun and the center of our Galaxy in late December, but this happens every year. In any case, planet alignments have no effect on the Earth.

Pole Shift: There is nothing strange this year about either the magnetic poles or the rotational poles of the Earth. The magnetic polarity changes every million years or so, but that is not happening now, and it probably takes thousands of years when it does happen. A sudden change in the rotational axis has never happened and is not possible. If there were any change in the Earth’s rotation, it would be instantly apparent by failure of our GPS systems.

Increasing Disasters: Our planet is behaving normally in 2012, although we see more and more news stories about natural disasters. There has been no increase in earthquakes or volcanic eruptions. There has been an increase in extreme weather, including both droughts and floods, which are partly attributable to global warming, but this has nothing to do with a 2012 doomsday.

Solar Outbursts: The Sun’s ongoing 11-year activity cycle is expected to peak in 2013, not 2012. Solar outbursts (flares and CMEs) can damage orbiting satellites but will not hurt us on the surface. The strength of the 2013 solar maximum is predicted to be lower than average, not higher.

Bunker Conspiracy: Accusations of a massive government cover-up are nonsense. No government could hide an incoming planet or silence hundreds of thousands of scientists. Rumors that huge bunkers have been built in the U.S. or elsewhere to shelter the elite are lies. Apparently a few people are building private shelters, but their fear of 2012 is misplaced and they are wasting their money.

Scaring Children: The group most vulnerable to doomsday claims is children. Teachers report that many of their students are frightened and some are even considering suicide. This is the most tragic consequence of the 2012 hoax.

The End of the World: The idea of the sudden end of the world by any cause is absurd. The Earth has been here for more than 4 billion years, and it will be several more billion years before the gradual brightening of the Sun makes our planet unlivable. Meanwhile there is no known astronomical or geological threat that could destroy the Earth.

Cosmophobia: Many young people write to me that they are scared of astronomy. When they read about some new discovery, the first thing they think is that it might hurt them, even if it is happening in a distant galaxy. There is no reason for such fears, which I call cosmophobia (fear of the universe). This rash of concern seems to be the result of too many conspiracy theories and sensational stories featured on the Internet and irresponsible news outlets. Astronomical objects are so distant that they cannot threaten the Earth. Please don’t be afraid of the Sun or the planets or comets or asteroids. The universe is not your enemy.

Six Vices

There are six vices that everyone in this universe might come across.  Let us understand and kill it.....

Ego - developing an image of the self that is false, temporary or imaginary.
Greed - finding short term fulfillment by acquiring material goods, a role in society or money or through the physical senses - eyes, tongue, ears, etc.
Attachment - finding security by developing a feeling of possessiveness over loved ones and material objects.
Lust - using excessive satisfaction through the senses as a means of fulfillment.
Anger - the feeling of hatred and revenge when any of the other vices are threatened or being taken away from us.
Laziness - becoming inactive on a spiritual, physical or mental level.

Beautiful explanation for Law of Life:

Relation = Life = Relation "It is very easy to spoil a relation, but to maintain it, we have to do lot of adjustments!".
